There is hope for France! SARKOZY a gagné.

Sarkozy has won the French presidency with 53% of the vote!

Congratulations to the French people for making the "right" choice, and not buckling under threats of violence.

Félicitations aux gens français, pour faire le choix juste!

Apparently, there was an estimated 85% voter turnout, the highest in years.

Hopefully, the same thing will happen here, in 2008!

Anyway, I suspect that he'll be useless anyway.

He is French after all.

Very true, anyone would be better, but I still think Sark will be a strong leader.

And it is encouraging, after what we/they have had to suffer with Chirac. Of course, there are certain *elements* that will not be happy. But such is life.

We will have about 40% of the people vote so a majority of them (21%) will elect the new President. Then the winning party will run around and yell they have a moral imperative to change. The people will snooze, er speak and we will elect a new person to take us where we don't want/need to go. Is it early? why am I so grumpy? MUD

I hope not, MUD! Hope it's just the grumps. I still think there's too much at stake, so it will bring people out of the wordworks, on both sides... unless the conservatives decide to stay home because they're not happy with the Repub. nom., which would be very stupid, but who knows.

I have faith in Sark, WOMAN, if the people will just let him do his job... or if the lazy anarchists/leftists etc. don't kill him before he does.

And yes, only time will tell. I know I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I hate to say it, but the best thing that could happen for the US now would be a terrorist attack in Frace to strengthen their resolve. No wait, they'd probably surrender.

I think it would be a wake up for any country.

I'm hoping this new blood will change things.
